I had the Freebies board set to private, meaning you had to register within UsedShoe forums and be logged into your account to access it.  I have succumbed to the pressure of the masses and have opened this board to everyone meaning you no longer have to be logged in to access it.

I think the Freebies board on UsedShoe is awesome to say the least.  I myself have received so many free things the past few months it’s unreal.  Magazines, dvds, cds, food, books, tickets to events, t-shirts, pens, knick knacks, Star Wars figures… probably hundreds and hundreds of dollars of items for free.  My thinking was I would keep this board set to private so that only registered members could access it for two reasons.  1. It was a perk of registering on the site.  Registering is free, it takes 1 minute, and it’s open to everyone so I didn’t think it was an issue and 2. By having people register I am able to get statistics on the site, such as how many members signed in each day, what time the most people signed in at, etc… which is helpful for a few different reasons (such as by knowing what time the fewest amount of people sign in it, this lets me know the ideal time to do maintenance on the site if need be so that I am interrupting as few people as possible).  But I have heard from the left and I have heard from the right and the message is clear, OPEN UP THE FREEBIES BOARD!  So that is what I did.  So for those of you who wanted it, you got it!  I hope you enjoy the freebies as much as I do, and taking the trek to your mailbox will no longer be a dreadful walk resulting in only a pile of bills, now you’ll look forward to seeing what random things come each day in the mail (I know I do).  Enjoy!

In an effort to streamline the site and make it easier to use the site has undergone a few changes. If you like the new format or think it’s horrible, let me know, I’m always looking for opinions. UsedShoe is now officially on MySpace which you can find at MySpace.com/UsedShoe. If you’re on MySpace and feel like having a new buddy then feel free to ad the site! I’m going to only post one blog entry per day from now on, but I will try to post anywhere from 5 to 10 deals a day in the Forum section of UsedShoe.  This will save me time and allow me to post more total deals per day for your money saving pleasure.  I think the forum section is also easier to view a whole lotta deals, so don’t forget to check out the forum section every now and again (or daily ) for a whole slew of deals.

Just wanted to make everyone aware of a few site changes - hopefully for the better :)~

Besides the obvious new header (which do you like or dislike?) and color scheme… There is a new feature added to show related posts at the end of each post.  If you click on a post you’ll see at the end of the article there are links to other posts that should be somewhat related to the post that you just read.  This is all inclusive meaning if you are reading a post from a month ago it can contain links to newer posts, not only posts made prior to it.

Also, the Forum section has been redesigned to fit more appropriately with the look/feel of the site.  There are some neat features in there, my favorite is the Props Meter.  After you have made two posts in the Forum section you will be enabled to either “Give Props”  to someone if you like their post or “Boink” someone if you dislike their post.  Also in the Forum section you can see whether the person who posted a deal is online or not in case you wanted to send them a message to ask a question about the deal they posted.  There’s a few other neat features but I’ll leave it up to you to discover on your own.

In an effort to jump start some activity on the Forum section of UsedShoe I’ve decided to hold a little contest.  The Forum has been open for two months and there is only one very lonely post in it (like a kid without a date on prom night).  So let’s help out that lonely post!  I have 2 gift cards for Dale and Thomas Popcorn Online (value of $20 each).  These are regular gift cards, no stipulations, and for those who have not tried Dale and Thomas popcorn you are Missing Out!!!  For the next 2 weeks the two people who post what I judge as the best 2 deals will win the gift cards (the same person cannot win both, sorry).  If only 2 people post a deal in the Forum section, then guess what, those 2 people will win.  I know there are a few different deal forums out there, but from what I can tell none of them ever give their users anything for spending their time to share deals that they post…  so we’re breaking the trend.  Good luck and happy posting!

I wrote about getting a free Senseo Coffee Pod System a few weeks ago (I believe the deal is still available in case you want to do it - check my original post for instructions) where you pay only shipping and handling ($15) and get the Coffee Pod System for free (they also give you a bag of coffee pods which is like a $4 value.  So I got mine in the mail today (actually got 2 in the mail because I registered with 2 different emails - figured I could give one away).  So here’s my review… Read the rest of this entry »
