How to Snag Items on Ebay for Excellent Prices

Waffle makers are usually moderately priced, so if you’ve been waiting for one to go on a mini-sale here is your chance.  This waffle maker is marked down $6 from $19.99 to $13.99.  I would guess this is the lowest price you can find one unless a store is going out of business or dumping overstock merchandise.  You will have to pay shipping and handling unless your local store has any in stock and you can do an in-store pickup, or you add another item to get your order to at least $24 (orders of $24 or more ship free).  Now all we need is a sale on the Mrs. Butterworth syrup…

I want to share two of my recent purchases on Ebay (because I got great deals) and also give a tip or two on how you can maybe score a great deal too.  You can see the picture below, I won 2 concert tickets for $0.99 cents (I had to pay $20 for overnight shipping since the concert was occuring in two days) and I won Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix HD DVD/Regular DVD combo for $7 ($10 total after shipping).  The concert tickets original price were $35 plus $9 surcharge so total face value per ticket was $44.  I paid $21 for two tickets which originally cost $88 so I saved a cool 76% on this purchase, and for the Harry Potter DVD I just checked Amazon.com and it is selling for $18.99 so I saved myself a sweet 47% there.  The key to finding good deals on Ebay is to use the filters.  The UsedShoe Ebay It! section of the site is set up to use such filters in order to display items selling at a discount.  As an example, in the Under $2 DVD section I set up a filter to only show DVDs whose current auction price is $2 or less and they are sorted by the auction which is expiring the soonest.   A while ago I used the DLP TV search to  get the TV for my family room - and I got it for about 66% cheaper than Costco was selling it for!

If you can’t find what you need in the Ebay It! section you can set up your own filters when you run your own search on Ebay.  Run a search on Ebay and on the left hand side of the page are your filtering options.  There are many options such as price, location, keywords, and more…

How I snagged the concert tickets for $0.99 cents?  Every now and again I run a search on Ebay for concert tickets.  I have my filter set up to show me only tickets that are for my state, and that are selling for $20 or less.  Sometimes when I run this search there are only 1 or 2 results, and other times there are 20 results.  I place my bid and sometimes an auction slips through the cracks, nobody else bids, and I wind up going to a concert for a dirt cheap price.

How to Easily Make Copies of DVDs

Disclaimer: I do not endorse or promote using this information to rent DVDs and make copies or to borrow your friends’ collections and copy them. According to US law that is illegal.

If you ever had an interest in making copies of DVDs but didn’t know how, or you got held up by the protection they install
in the DVDs nowadays I will share with you how you can get around this. First you will need a DVD burner. These are pretty standard with a lot of new computers nowadays, but if you have an older computer, or if by chance yours didn’t come with one don’t worry, you can pick one up for an affordable price nowadays. Go HERE and look for Item#:N82E16827151153.

This is a Samsung 20X SATA DVD+/-RW Drive which costs a whopping $24.99 with free shipping. Ok, so now you have a DVD burner and we’re all on the same page now. Now you need decoding software to remove that protection that Hollywood loves to install on DVDs. My recommendation is picking up AnyDVD which is made by Slysoft (you can find this program Here). There is also AnyDVDHD for decoding HD DVDs and Blu Ray DVDs. This software is a little pricey at 50 euros for the AnyDVD (which is around $75 dollars I believe), but I believe it is worth it, here’s why: I purchased this software about 6 years ago. Every time that Hollywood changed the protection on DVDs, Slysoft would create a patch that they will provide to you for free to update your program so you never have to worry about the software becoming obsolete. Now you may already have a DVD copying program installed on your computer. If not Slysoft also has CloneDVD which is used to copy the DVD. Just to be clear, AnyDVD will decrypt the protection coding on the DVD which ‘opens’ the DVD up to be copied, CloneDVD is what will copy the DVD to your blank DVD. And speaking of blank DVDs, that is the last item you will need. The prices of blank DVDs have come way down in the past year. Here’s a pack of 100 blank DVDs for $24.99 as an example (if you wait for a good sale you should be able to get this for under $20). And there you have it: 1. DVD burner 2. DVD decoding program 3. DVD burning program 4. blank DVDs - You are now ready to copy away.

Here is an item I am excited about… It is the Sega Genesis collection for Playstation 2. It is marked down 25% to $14.99 with free shipping on orders of $25 or more. I’m excited because I’m a Sonic the Hedgehog fan and I never owned a Sega. Here are the games that are on this collection: Decap Attack starring Chuck D. Head Ecco the Dolphin Ecco II - The Tides of Time Ecco Jr. Kid Chameleon Flicky Gain Ground Golden Axe I Golden Axe II Golden Axe III Phantasy Star II Phantasy Star III - Generations of Doom Phantasy Star IV - The End of the Millenium Ristar Shadow Dancer - The Secret of Shinobi Shinobi III - Return of the Ninja Master Sonic the Hedgehog Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Super Thunder Blade Sword of Vermilion Vectorman Vectorman 2 Virtua Fighter 2
Congrats go out to Forum member Pojeda who won this past week’s free giveaway.  This is the 20th giveaway to date so if you’re not entering it only takes a minute each week!  Here are the past winners and here is the place to enter this week’s giveaway.  This week’s giveaway is up for grabs to the person who correctly guesses the actor I am thinking of.  Here are the clues: He is younger then 40 but older then 21.  He’s been in movies and at least 1 television series.  He does not have black hair.  Good luck!

Freebie of the Day: You can get a Purina cat litter system for F-R-E-E.  This is around a $50 value.  See this thread and be sure to pay attention to Reply #5 which gives you the ’secret’ to getting this freebie.  Enjoy!!!

Giant Slim Jim Deal (YumYumYum)

If you’re a fan of the Slim Jim (like me) then you’ll be hopping for this deal, pick out any 3 boxes of the 24 count BIG Jim Slims and add them to your cart, you can see the selection choices in this message thread. After you add the 3 boxes then use code: saveslim at checkout. This will knock $25 off the price resulting in a final price of approx. $25 which I think is pretty hot for 72 of the Big Sticks! (I know my local gas station charges $1.25 for one).  I couldn’t resist and ordered 2 Tobasco and 1 Nacho for myself which should hold me over for a few months (I hope!).
Any fan of The King of Queens is going to love this deal… you can pick up the complete series DVD Boxed set for $104.99 shipped. There are 9 seasons so that works out to under $12 a season. Here’s the product review:

“The hilarity of the Heffernan household entertained viewers for nine whole seasons. The popular sitcom stars Kevin James as Doug Heffernan a UPS delivery man who lives in Queens with his shopaholic wife Carrie (Leah Remini). The couple’s life together is turned upside down when Carrie’s eccentric father Arthur (Jerry Stiller SEINFELD) moves
in with them taking over Doug’s cherished TV room and usurping his sports-watching habits. The unusual family arrangement provides laughs and challenges over the next nine eventful years.”

For a limited time only, Spring Hill Nursery is offering $20 off a $20 order (i.e. you just pay shipping) as a promotion to try to win over customers.  So if you like planting flowers this may be a good opportunity to pick some up at a nice discount.

Freebie of the Day: You can order up to 5 children’s books for free (with free shipping too)!  This freebie was posted by Pattikay with an assist from Kcalcote who listed a lot of the books available.  Instead of copying the huge list you can see this offer here and don’t forget if you take advantage of the freebie to thank the poster who shared it with us.

Get Lost - Today Only!

There is a 1 day sale on Seasons 1-3 of Lost, today only you can pick them up for $79.99 with free shipping. Now paying $27 for a season seems like an expensive price (at least to me) but compared to the regular price which is anywhere from $35-45 per season, the $79.99 for all three seasons is a nice discount. I’m a HUGE Lost fan and would definitely recommend this series to everyone. Season 4 is currently airing each week on TV right now so by the time you finish watching the first 3 seasons I’m sure season 4 will be out on DVD.
If by chance you plan on traveling and want to watch Lost from the road there is a nice deal on a 7″ (refurb) Portable DVD player today, $53.95 + shipping. Here’s the product specs for you:

  • Polaroid 7″ Swivel Screen Portable DVD

  • Player PDM-0752, Built-in Dolby Digital decoder

  • Swivel screen design for 180-degree viewing.

  • Plays DVD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW CDs, CD-R/RW

  • ESP, Electronic Skip Protection

  • And for the true die-hard Disney fans out there you can get a Disney toaster for $9.99 + s/h.   This is a Cinderella toaster (original price claims to be $39.99) which will imprint what looks to be a heart on your bread.

Freebie of the Day:  This freebie was posted by SCC76 and is for a free sticker.  Simply sign up with the regular info (name/address/etc…) and pick out your free sticker.

Harvard Hockey Rod Table for 70% Off ($99.99 shipped!)

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there!!!

This is a great deal so even though I mentioned another hockey table a few days ago I can’t help but mention this one today. This is the Harvard 7 foot hockey rod table and the reason I’m talking about it is the price! Everywhere else online this hockey table is selling for $350 or more, and here it is selling for $98.99! Throw in the fact that shipping is $0.97 cents (yes, 97 cents for an 80 pound package) and you cannot go wrong. If you are familiar with the Harvard brand name you know it is high end quality. In case you want to make sure this is as good of a deal as I say, check it out at Dick’s Sporting Goods Site for $349.99 + $50 for shipping or Sports Authority for the same price! I would venture a guess that this will sell out quickly once the word spreads around so just keep that in mind, if you snooze you lose.

If you were planning on driving somewhere that was a few hours away you may want to check out Southwest’s $29 one way fare deal! You have to book your ticket at least 21 days in advance so keep that in mind.

Freebie of the Day: Here you can request a free Contour Glucose Meter and also get a free subscription to diabetic cooking (thanks to member Bumblebear who posted this!). If you are not a diabetic feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who is (or you can request it and when it comes give it to them as a small something for nothing).

Buying Groceries Online Just Got a Whole Lot Cheaper

If you like the wholesale clubs like Costco, Sams, BJ’s, etc… then you’d definitely like the Amazon’s Grocery discount section. Each month Amazon offers different promotions on bulk items so if you’re the type to pay less per unit and stock up then you’ll be a big fan of this. To make this even better then is a limited promotion that you can stack ON TOP of the original discounts! Let me give you all the information: First, you can find the original monthly deals On This Page. Now you can go onto This Page which shows you items that are eligible for $10 off a $25 order. Also, if you order $25 you get free shipping. Let me give you an example of how you can successfully stock these promotions to save yourself some cash! There is a Mr. Coffee 12 oz 6 pack whose original price is $40.80. It is on sale for $29.14. This item is part of the April grocery deals so using code: MRCOFF45 allows you to take 30% off the price (which is approx. an $8.75 savings) and using the special $10 off $25 promotion you can apply code: MAYGRCCL to take $10 off. Your final price will be $10.40 (with free shipping), or about $1.70 per container.

If you’re a fan of the Graveyard Mall (found here) this weekend only you can save 20% on your order (items are always marked down so you’re saving on top of the original markdown). The code you need to apply is: md2008. As an example, the Bill Murray movie Broken Flowers, LINK, is marked down to $3.99 on the site, take 20% off that and it is $3.59 which I believe is the cheapest you’ll find it online.

Freebie of the Day: If you have a Movie Gallery rental store near you can you get a free movie thanks to this freebie posted by Pattikay. HERE is a coupon which is valid until December 31st, 2008 for a free rental. And in case you do not have a Movie Gallery near you then I’ll mention a different freebie also so you’re not feeling left out today… How about one month of Netflix for free? Netflix offers everyone 2 weeks free. You can find that Here. But if you click on the link that says “Free Trial Info” and then go into your web address bar, and where it says “.com/freetrialinfo” replace that with “.com/tellafriend” you will then be asked to enter the code which is: M4324220755 . This way you’ll get a month for free instead of the regular 2 weeks!

Charge Up Those Wii Controllers on the Cheap

If you have a Wii and you have multiple controllers then you may be able to use a dual charger. The charger is $8.99 (+$3 for shipping) HERE, and I’m going to go out on a limb and say that is a pretty good price considering one of my favorite sites Amazon.com has it selling for $26.99 (see here).
If you could use a comforter set then now may be the time to take a gander as there is a pretty good sale going on. You can find out about the sale Here where the prices are starting at $10 and up. The picture to the left is of the “intersection comforter set” which is $15 right now. No idea how long this sale will last so if you are in the market make sure to jump on this as soon as you have the chance.

There is a coupon for $10 off an XBOX game at Target. You can find a copy of the coupon here. I cannot verify that the coupon works, I found it floating around the web and not on Target’s site, so if someone happens to use it I’d appreciate it if you could post a message letting us know it works. It is valid until June 9th.

Freebie of the Day: This freebie of the day was brought to you by SCC76, you can drop her a line and say thanks here if you take advantage of the freebie… The freebie of the day is a free subscription to MAD Magazine. This is a pretty quality freebie because the magazine is classic.

Are You Prepared for an Emergency?

It’s always a good idea to have some sort of emergency kit in your car, most kits can’t solve every emergency that may occur but at least you’ll have an option to check out if a situation arises and the price is right on this kit!  Here is the kit which is selling for $9.99 with free shipping.  But, if you use Google Checkout to complete your purchase then $10 will be knocked off your purchase price resulting in our favorite word…F-R-E-E!

There’s also a decent deal on some storage, the Calvary 500GB External hard drive can be yours for $79.99 with free shipping, but like the deal above you can use Google Checkout to knock $10 off the price. Here is the link to the item. My my how hard drive prices have plummeted (going against the grain of everything else in this economy which costs an arm and a leg). So if you’re in the market for a hard drive this may be the time to pick it up because I don’t foresee these prices dropping much further, instead I think the manufacturers will stop producing so many, the supply will lessen, and the prices will increase (Disclaimer: that is my amateur analysis)

Freebie of the Day: One year subscription to PC Magazine.  This freebie was posted by SCC76 and for those PC people out there you know this is a quality magazine!  Here is a link to the offer.  Fill out your info. and answer a few questions and off you go.  This site is reputable (I’ve gotten free magazines from them before) so I’m confident everyone will get their free subscription.

Find a Free Night at a Hotel

I wrote about this a while ago, but I just used it again the other day so I figured it would be a good time to write about this again for those who have forgotten about it and for any new readers…  Do you want to stay in a hotel for a night for free?

    free.jpg

Well it is possible and I just got myself a free night stay in NYC again (the regular price on the room was $289).  I will still have to pay taxes when I stay there (you can’t avoid that) but I am saving myself almost a cool $300.  And it took me literally 20 minutes of my time.  Now it may take you longer or it may take you shorter, it just depends if you’re having a lucky day or not.  Here’s how you can do it:

You go HERE (this site is WyndamRewards.com formerly known as TripRewards.com) and you find a hotel that you want to stay in.  You must select the hotel, the day, and the type of room (meaning a Queen bed room, or two doubles, etc…).  See what the final price (including taxes) will be.  Now go to any other “real” website on the internet and find that exact same type of room at the same hotel on the same day for a cheaper total price.  If you locate it cheaper somewhere else you have a winner!  What you do now is reserve the room through the WyndamRewards site.  You will need to provide a credit card to hold the room but you will not be charged (and almost every hotel allows you to cancel your reservation at least 24 hours before the day you are supposed to stay there).  Now you should go HERE which is the place to file a claim on the WyndamRewards site.  Per this page you will see the following information:

“You can get the Guaranteed Best Available Rate or It’s Free when you book a stay with our participating hotel chains directly through Wyndham Rewards. Reserve with confidence when you book your reservation at wyndhamrewards.com or call 1.866.WYN.RWDS (1.866.996.7937). If you find a lower publicly available rate for the same hotel accommodation and date on another web site, we’ll give you your first night free!* “

Look at the middle of the page and you will see the link for the Claim Form.  Fill out the claim form which requires you to enter your reservation information with Wyndam and it will ask you the website that you found the better price on.  Enter the information and submit your claim.  They should respond within 24-48 hours and let you know if you are to receive the free room.  The most common reason why you will be REJECTED is because the room you reserved and the room you are comparing the price to have a different stipulation (and believe me they are very fussy about this).  If one room is smoking and the other room is non-smoking then your claim will be rejected.  Don’t fear, even if you try and your claim gets rejected you can call them and cancel your reservation and you lose nothing.  And if they accept your claim then you gain a free night in a hotel which can save you anywhere from $50-$400.  (Note: They will update their website prices once you inform them there is a cheaper price out there, so make sure you go through this process before telling all your friends to do it)

These are the chains that this offers qualifies for

If you need some suggestions on what website to compare prices against I would say Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, BookIt, and Priceline to name a few.

Freebie of the Day: I thought it would be a good idea to highlight a freebie each day from the Freebies Forum Board.   Member BumbleBear posted a freebie for a free bag of Purina One Dog or Cat Food for you pet owners out there.  You can find the deal Here and the Forum thread in located Here if you wanted to discuss this freebie.

50% Off TV DVD Box Sets - 21 Jump Street Anyone?

If you’re a fan of TV on DVD box sets then you’ll enjoy this sale here! There is a huge selection (huge to me means more then 50 for these purposes of the word “huge”) of choices and I’ll highlight a few of the ones that I’m either going to scoop up or am contemplating on scooping up. 3rd Rock from the Sun for $12.50, 21 Jump Street for $12.50, Wings for $15, and Doogie Howser for $12.50. This is a nice trip down memory lane for those of us who grew up in the 80’s (except for 3rd Rock). There are many other notable titles on sale like Beverly Hills 90210, Arrested Development, Frasier, Stargate, Silk Stalkings, and a bunch of MTV series (if you like that sort of thing) like Punk’d, Viva la Bam, WildBoyz, Nick and Jessica, Rock of Love, The Hills, Laguna Beach… You can see a full listing of all the movies in the Forums here (thanks DealKid for providing the list)!

Continuing on the theme of building a game room from yesterday, if you wanted to add an affordable pool table to your game room then look no further then HERE. This is the 8 foot Bella Vista table on sale/clearance for $199. You can select in store pickup if you have a Sears near you (and they have it in stock) to avoid paying shipping, but even with shipping it is more affordable then other pool tables. I have done some research reading the reviews and here is my summation of the reviews: If you want a high end table this is not the table for you. The table surface is very nice, but the table legs are not real solid wood like they appear to be in the picture. This is a great table for someone looking to play some pool on the cheap, but this is definitely not a table for the pool professional.

And if you like getting things for free (who doesn’t???) then check out the Freebies section of the site. There have been over 50 freebies posted since yesterday, and picking one out at random, Here is a free one year subscription to the magazine Bridal Guide (posted in the forums by SCC76).

A 2nd Time Winner, Some Grocery Deals, and Table Games on Sale

The site has a newly designed homepage
which has taken a lot of my time the past few weeks so I hope everyone enjoys it…

The UsedShoe Weekly Giveaway has just ended for
another week and this past week entrants had to guess my favorite
animal. The winner was Phoinex who correctly guessed a ferret (I have a ferret named Nibbler… yes, the name was borrowed from Futurama).
This is Phoinex’s second win so Congrats again! This week’s Weekly Giveaway is up and running, in order to be entered you just need to post a message with what your favorite summer activity is. Link to the Giveaway
If you have a Walgreens nearby you can get a free 8×10 photo from 5/5-5/7. Here is the link and the secret coupon code is: 4mom.
One of my favorite monthly deals is the Amazon Grocery coupon codes. If you are not familiar with this and you enjoy buying in bulk a la Costco style then you would definitely
enjoy this. Here’s a link to the list of offers on Amazon’s site.
Here’s an example of one of the many deals in this section. If you spend $49 or more on any of these brands (or a combination): Austin | Carr’s | Famous Amos | Keebler | Kellogg’s | Loma Linda | Murray | Sunshine | Worthington then you can enter code KELLOG12 and get $20 knocked off your purchase price.
If you are looking for an edition to your game room and you don’t have a soccer or hockey table then you may want to take a look at these two ESPN tables that are currently on sale at Sears. Each one is reduced to $99.99 and if you select in-store pickup (and they have it in stock at your local Sears) then you can avoid the $65 shipping charge. Hockey Table link and Table Soccer link. They both look like nice games and at this price you can’t go wrong.
