There is one scene in particular where I noticed he didn't "walk like a cop". In the scne he was actually jogging, but still to my same point. The scene was near the end (Disclaimer: Don't read this comment further if you don't want me to spoil anything for you)...
So Crowe and his police buddies were going to bust the Drug Factory. This is supposed to be a tense moment, they don't want to be seen by the bad guys, so they have to sprint into the building for cover. What sticks in my head was seeing Crowe "prance" to the building. I actually started laughing at how funny it looked. In a moment that is supposed to be dangerous and you could get killed he prances. Maybe I am overanalyzing it, but it seemed so out of place that it stuck with me.
In regards to 'talking like a cop' you would think a New Jersey cop that has seen the rough streets would be an authoritative figure. He'd have a 'tough cop' way of talking. The only time Crowe exhibited this was when he yelled at some teenagers in a park, lol. The rest of the movie he seemed somewhat meek and timid.

I am a sucker for gangster movies...I really liked this one, but some parts, I do agree were...off. Saw IV, awesome like the rest! Although I had to turn my head half the time cause I couldnt stand to see some of the horror on there!! I love it though! ps, these would be 2 good ones for the weekly giveaway...hint hint!!

Hmm tell me ...what does 'a cop' walk like and talk like and act like, then? I mean, are they all the same? Do they make them in Detroit on a production line? Just wondering.
I have always felt Russell Crowe puts a lot of effort into researching his characters...in this case that meant understanding and meeting the guy he was playing, Richie Roberts. Of course this may have been a mistake if the real Roberts didn't 'act like' a cop either. :lol
