Cookies on the Cheap and American Gangster

If you have some Cookie Monster in your blood you may want to check out This Deal where you can grab 25 packages of cookies for $6. I picked these cookies up about a month ago (though the price I paid was nowheres near this good) and the cookies are pretty good. They are different from your traditional Chips Ahoy and have a more bisquit type quality to them.

I signed up for a free month of Blockbuster online rentals (deal is posted in the Forums section) and I watched two movies over the weekend.  The first one was Saw part IV.  I enjoy the Saw series but they are not just redoing the same type of thing over and over.  I was entertained, but felt like if I had anything significant to do for that two hours it would have taken precendence over watching this movie.  The 2nd movie I watched was American Gangster.  This movie stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.  Denzel gives a great performance as he usually does.  I think he is one of the top (if not the top) quality actor out there.  Russell Crowe… well, I’m not sure how this guy is an actor (and a name actor at that).  In the movie he is a cop, yet he doesn’t act like a cop, he doesn’t talk like a cop, and it was funny but I even said to myself he doesn’t walk like a cop.  Here’s a tip Russell, instead of throwing phones at people spend some time researching the role you are going to play.  I was disappointed with the movie.  They clearly stole the scene from Scarface where Tony kills someone in broad daylight in the middle of a crowded street.  I know this movie is supposed to be based on a true story but it felt like they were mimicing the Scarface scene.  The secondary actors that they selected were laughable.  The guy who is Russell’s first partner looked like a beauty salon owner with his hairstyle instead of a cop.  And the crew that later becomes Russell’s possee was a joke.  I was mildly entertained at most, but if I paused the movie at any point and walked away for two weeks, not one part of me would have wondered what happened.  The ending scene is also cheesy IMO (in my opinion) and you are left saying to yourself “ummm, that’s the ending?”.  But I got to see them for free so I shouldn’t be complaining, right?  We’ll see what the next few rentals will bring…

Hmm tell me …what does ‘a cop’ walk like and talk like and act like, then? I mean, are they all the same? Do they make them in Detroit on a production line? Just wondering.
I have always felt Russell Crowe puts a lot of effort into researching his characters…in this case that meant understanding and meeting the guy he was playing, Richie Roberts. Of course this may have been a mistake if the real Roberts didn’t ‘act like’ a cop either. :lol

I am a sucker for gangster movies…I really liked this one, but some parts, I do agree were…off. Saw IV, awesome like the rest! Although I had to turn my head half the time cause I couldnt stand to see some of the horror on there!! I love it though! ps, these would be 2 good ones for the weekly giveaway…hint hint!!

There is one scene in particular where I noticed he didn’t “walk like a cop”. In the scne he was actually jogging, but still to my same point. The scene was near the end (Disclaimer: Don’t read this comment further if you don’t want me to spoil anything for you)…
So Crowe and his police buddies were going to bust the Drug Factory. This is supposed to be a tense moment, they don’t want to be seen by the bad guys, so they have to sprint into the building for cover. What sticks in my head was seeing Crowe “prance” to the building. I actually started laughing at how funny it looked. In a moment that is supposed to be dangerous and you could get killed he prances. Maybe I am overanalyzing it, but it seemed so out of place that it stuck with me.
In regards to ‘talking like a cop’ you would think a New Jersey cop that has seen the rough streets would be an authoritative figure. He’d have a ‘tough cop’ way of talking. The only time Crowe exhibited this was when he yelled at some teenagers in a park, lol. The rest of the movie he seemed somewhat meek and timid.
