Going for the Gold: Part 3: Quest for a Free 42 inch Plasma TV

This is part 3 of my Quest for a free plasma tv. If you’re not familiar with what this deal is all about you may want to start at the beginning which you can find here: http://www.usedshoe.com/2007/10/04/going-for-the-gold-a-42-samsung-plasma-tv-for-free-1499-price-tag/

My Plasma TV is on its way and should be received in about 6 weeks.

The final tally is in on how much effort/cost I had to put into this project. I spent 4 hours of my time between signing up for the offers, calling to cancel the offers, and returning some items from offers that I received so I could get refunds. My final cost of this project was $27 (after refunds). So in summation, I spent 4 hours of my time and $27 of my money and will be getting a 42′ Samsung Plasma TV shipped to me for free. I dare you to find a better deal then this. This TV has a MSRP of approx. $1,499 though you may be able to get one on sale for $1,100 or $1,200…

This is what the TV will look like (I choose the Samsung):

If you are skeptical of this deal then read through the first 2 articles I wrote about this deal. You can still do it and I’ve set up a Plasma line to help you accomplish your mission of getting this Plasma TV for free (you’ll find information about this in my 2nd article). Whether you’re rich or poor I think spending 4 hours of your time and $27 smackers is well worth it to receive this TV. And if you don’t have the bucks to give someone a super nice Christmas gift then this deal should be for you (though you may not receive it in time for Christmas, but I’m sure they would rather receive a 42 Plasma tv late then a $5 bill in a $0.99 Hallmark card on time). Feel free to ask other members of UsedShoe via the comment section of the Plasma Line about this offer if you have any questions. If you don’t know what this Plasma Line thing I keep talking about it, then read my first post about this deal (which I posted the link to at the beginning of this post) and you’ll figure it out.

My 4th and final post about this deal will be when the TV arrives on my doorsteps and I can take some pictures for you to see. If you have any questions feel free to ask. If you attempt this deal then good luck and I hope you get your Plasma ASAP. Enjoy!

Here is my spreadsheet that shows the offers I completed along with the information pertaining to each offer. This will save you about an hour of time!!!

UPDATE: 11/16: Please note, this offer has been revised and now the site requires you to have 2 referrals instead of 1.  This makes the offer a little more time consuming (but still worth it in my opinion).

Congrats! Can you post which sections were most difficult to complete, for those who want to attempt the same?

  2. admin Says:

What I will do is tonight I will post my Excel spreadsheet that I used to keep track of the offers I did. The spreadsheet is very nice because I kept track of what number to call to cancel the offer and how long you had to cancel the offer so the spreadsheet does all the work for you (almost). I have the file at home so I’ll do it around dinner time.

  3. Phil Says:

After you signed up for these 12 offers, how long did you wait to cancel them? 1 day? 2 days? 1 week?

  4. Phil Says:

Also, please put a link to part 3 of this on your part 2 page… just to make it an easier read… thanks

  5. Phil Says:

One more question. What happens if you cancel the offer before they notify the plasma site that you have participated? Does that offer count towards the 12?

  6. admin Says:

the soonest offers will auto renew in a week, i cancelled them after 5 days. the rest i waited until either i got credit, or 2 days before it was set to auto renew (just to be safe). all my offers credited within a week of completing them, though i hear now it is taking longer for some people.

  7. Chris Says:

Heads up for you, the site now says you need to refer two (2) unique households for the TV.

Just an update….i was ~number 5 or 6 on the referral line, and finally yesterday, i received my panasonic 42″ plasma TV!

  11. admin Says:

Congrats on getting the TV! At least there was one success!!!

  12. Nicole Says:

Glad you got your TV. I can’t remember what number I was on the referral line (I think 8 or 9) but it doesn’t seem like my TV is going to come through, although I received the approval screen and haven’t received any disqualification emails. Any advice on things I might try?

  13. admin Says:

Try sending them an email through their site. They would have never told me I was “disqualified” unless I contacted them.

  14. Nicole Says:

I emailed them a while ago, but all they said is that they will only respond to written correspondence. I seem to have misplaced their contact info. Does anyone have the address to their legal dept? Thanks.

  15. admin Says:

i had it but i discarded it, sorry. if you email them and ask for the mailing address i would think they should provide it to you.

Two days ago, I got a knock at my front door. It was my brand new 40″ Samsung LCD TV! (They said they could not find a 42″ Samsung Plasma so they gave me a choice between the 42″ Panasonic Plasma and a 40″ Samsung LCD). I just kept sending them emails and resent my certs because they claimed that they had not received them. So, after only 8 months I now have an awesome new TV!

  17. admin Says:

That’s awesome! Took a long time and you had to hound them but in the end it paid off, congrats!
