You can watch TV online for free.  It is quick and easy to install the free software and within minutes you’ll be watching TV online.  You may not get every single channel you would from your local cable company, but I guarantee you’ll get channels online that your local cable company doesn’t carry.  This offers you a greater variety at NO cost.  There are two good programs that I would recommend to watch TV online…

Before I mention these two programs I want to warn you about some websites that want to charge you for watching TV online.  If you do a search on any search engine for the phrase “watch TV online” or something similar you will get a lot of results for sites that want to charge you a $50 or $100 fee to install their TV player.  It’s up to you if you want to do this, but why would you when you can get it for free???

The two programs I would recommend are Sopcast which you can download for free at Sopcast.org and TVU Player which you can find the free TVU Player download here.  In a post from last week I mentioned you could use Sopcast’s program to watch almost every single NFL game which is a huge benefit (since DirecTV will charge you $300+ for their NFL package which is the only way you can get the NFL package in the United States – besides using Sopcast).  TVU Player has movie channels that show movies 24 hours a day on them (not brand new movies, but decent movies… and the price (Free) is right).  Between these two programs you can almost any type of program you want (they also show programming from other countries which is a benefit if you are interested in that).  These players do stream their content to your computer, so if you have an ancient (i.e.  dial up modem) you may encounter difficulties watching them.  I have a DSL connection and it works almost flawlessly for me.  Enjoy the free cable!
