Office Depot Goofs & Sears Pays for It
How does a high end camera for almost half price sound?
Office Depot listed the Canon Rebel XT (with the kit!!!) on their site for $399.
This is a high end digital camera that can be found online in the price tag range of $700-750. So how did this price mistake hurt Sears? Sears has a 110% price match guarantee policy. From the Sears.com website:
“If you find a lower price on an identical branded item with the same features currently available for sale at another local retail store Sears will match that price Plus, give you 10% of the difference. Just tell your sales associate at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase.”
So for those smart shoppers they brought in a print out of the Office Depot website camera price to a Sears store. The Office Depot site has the regular price as $699. But by finding the item a certain way you can get the price at $399. Here’s how to do it:
Go to OfficeDepot.com. Click on “view cart”. Next, select the “in-store pickup” option. After that search for item #283936 and Kazam! The Canon Rebel XT kit is now $399.
Sears has to match the $399 plus give you 10% off for a grand total of $359.10! Not a bad deal at all considering high end camera RARELY sell at a discount and this is a $250-$350 discount. I myself was walking and chewing gum at the same time which had me more then occupied so I missed out on this deal (and ironically I was looking for a high end camera at a good price) but for those who grabbed this deal you got a steal.

Uh, no. Sears does not have to honor the OD price, since it was a mistake. Sears, as well as every other retailer out there with a PM policy, has a disclaimer that states they do not honor price mistakes nor PM them. IF someone got them to PM the OD price mistake, great. But they don’t “have” to honor the 110% PM on a price mistake.

Well then I guess Sears would need to have proven that the OD price was a mistake. This would have been hard because you could have gotten this camera for $399 at OD for a limited time so…
